What is a Clinical Counsellor?

According to the British Columbia Association of Clinical Counsellor’s website (BCACC, 2023), Clinical Counsellors “are specifically trained to help people improve and maintain their mental health and well-being”.

Is counselling right for me?

What are the rates for individual counselling or consulting sessions?

Individual counselling or consulting sessions are $150 for 50-minutes

Are these sessions covered under an extended health plan?

Before scheduling the first session contact your plan provider to make sure your plan covers Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC). If your plan does cover Registered Clinical Counsellors (RCC), Dr. Paris can provide a detailed receipt for you to request reimbursement. 

Note: Dr. Paris does not personally interact with insurance organizations with the following exceptions: First Nations Health Authority (FNHA)(See information below) and the Crime Victim Assistance Program (CVAP).

Why do some clients prefer to pay cash for their sessions?

Some reasons clients may prefer to pay cash for their sessions are:

-Sessions are more individualized. They are set up to meet the unique needs of the client.

-Various systematic approaches to treatment are available.

-The emphasis is not only on problems or mental disorders, but on maintaining mental health and excelling.  

Does Dr. Paris offer mental health services in groups?

Yes, Dr. Paris specializes in Educational Trainings, Experiential Workshops, and Support Groups. These group activities have a maximum of 6 participants and vary in length depending on the topic being covered. 

What is the cost for participating in group activities?

For all group activities the total cost will be stated prior to registration, and a list of supplies needed for the group activity will be provided.

Acceptable payment for an individual session or group activity:

At the beginning of each individual session or group activity payment can be made by cash, check, debit, or credit card.

Special Rates for Indigenous Clients

At a sovereign Coast Salish First Nation, Dr. Faye A. Paris provided counselling to clients and consulted with staff on cases. She also co-facilitated and facilitated Expressive Arts Therapy groups and workshops on various mental health issues. Dr. Paris created a therapeutic playroom for children and worked with children and families within their community and culture.

Dr. Paris completed the San’yas Indigenous Cultural Safety Training program through the Provincial Health Services Authority. She is an approved mental health service provider for First Nations Health Authority (FNHA).

If you are Indigenous and have a status number (10-digits) you may be eligible for fully funded sessions through FNHA. If you do not have a status number contact FNHA for assistance. Additional information you will need to provide Dr. Paris to determine eligibility includes:

  11. Were you affected by the issue of missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls in Canada?
  12. Were you a:
    • former Indian Residential School Student?
    • family member of a former Indian Residential School Student?
    • former Indian Day School Student?
    • family member of a former Indian Day School Student?
    • If so, name the school attended and by whom_____________

It is important to note that counselling sessions cannot begin without first obtaining approval from the FNHA. In an EMERGENCY contact a crisis line, clinic, or hospital services.

What is the rate for non-insured individual sessions?

Individual counselling or consulting sessions are $90. for 50-minutes

What is the cost for participating in non-insured group activities?

For all group activities the total cost will be stated prior to registration, and a list of supplies needed for the group activity will be provided.

Acceptable payment for a non-insured individual session or group activity:

As stated previously, at the beginning of each session or group activity payment can be made using cash, check, debit, or credit card.
